Howrah-Shirdi Superfast Express started its Journey

The South Eastern Railway has flagged off a new weekly superfast train, the Howrah-Shirdi Sainagar Express, which will travel via from Howrah to Shirdi. The regular run is slated from February 24.

Bala Devi, a sweeper at the Santraganchi railway station, and Nimai Chandra Bera, a gateman at the Goraghanta station, inaugurated the weekly superfast express train -Howrah to Shirdi.”The duo will retire on the 28th of this month. So we decided to pay them a small tribute by requesting them to launch the trains. Though they are workers at the lower-level, yet they are very important to the organisation,” CPRO Soumitro Majumdar said.

The weekly train (Up 12574) will leave Howrah every Thursday at 2.35 pm & will reach  Shirdi at 8.30pm on Friday.

The down train (12573) will leave Shirdi on Saturday at 1.45 pm and will arrive Howrah at  7.30pm, Sunday.

The train, which will take around 30 hours to travel between Howrah and Shirdi will have 18 coaches — six general, eight sleeper, one AC three-tier, one AC two-tier and two SLRs.

The Chotanagpur Passenger Association and the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the leading trade body in Kolhan region, have welcomed the decision to introduce a direct train to Shirdi.

“It was one of our long-standing demands. A sizeable number of people from this region travel to Shirdi. In the absence of a direct link, they had to board a train bound for Mumbai and get down at Manmad before heading for Shirdi. The new train will ease the journey,” said Suresh Sonthalia, the general secretary of SCCI.

B.N. Pande, a senior functionary of Chotanagpur Passenger Association, echoed Sonthalia. “It is a decision that will benefit a large number of people. We were expecting the train since it was announced in last year’s railway budget,” he said.
